The first "DePaule Slick Slider 8" is done.
Took me way too long to get it done, but it is a proto-type and that means altering the plans here and there along the way.
This one is the long 24 inch scale and sounds very good.
The second one will be a short 22.5" scale that I intend to keep.

I know the other post was getting too long, but if anyone is interested this is a link:
https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=379161

It has a soft Vinyl case with a large pocket. I think I will list it for $1,200.00 Plus shipping in the lower 48 states.
It must be bought by September 10th because I am going overseas on the 12th and will take it off sale then until I return 5 weeks later.

Here are the photos of the done deal. Very Happy

Beautiful! I can barely imagine the amount of work that goes into something like this.
Amongst everything else, that's a great choice of pickup - it blends so well with the general design that you barely recognise what it is. Of course it's an excellent unit in its own right. Nice job.

Thanks Ian.
Yes it took a while, but now that I've done the first 2 doing more would go a lot faster.
And yes... This is the first time I've used an Alumitone and it sounds wonderful.
Not quite sure I understand how it works, but the tonal range is very good.

Thanks Per,
Adding leg sockets would not be too hard unless you wanted to countersink them.
In that case I'd get an extra large Forstner Bit of the same size and do it on my drill press.
Could also be carefully routed.
Other than that it would be easy to simply pre-drill and screw them in place.
Best wishes,
Andy

Thanks Tim,
Nice of you to note my best efforts, though they are not as good now as when I was at my best in the mid 90's.

I find as age and health is catches up with me it's no longer possible to do what I used to do.
Hands shake and fingers lock in weird positions that hurt when I'm sanding or other repetitive motions.

I'm not complaining because much worse things happen to other people my age.
Just thank God for each great new day and wonderful family. Very Happy

Beautiful! As a builder, I can completely relate to the tolls of age making life more difficult for building. But kudos to keeping on keeping on! At least it doesn't look like age is hurting the quality of the finished product! And arthritis, neurologic issues etc. don't usually affect the eye, ear and aesthetic one bit!

Nice guitar.

Thanks Tony,
Coming from you that has meaning. I was so impressed back in 78 when I met you at Sierra and you were finishing up that beautiful D-10 for John.
It had that really nice Red Lacquer finish over the Birdseye Maple veneer. Blew me away.
A lot of the things I saw at the Sierra shop back then were amazing.
Had trouble comprehending how Chuck Wright had planned those models out so well and wish I'd had a chance to meet him.
I did get to meet Danny Shields there. He was really entertaining! Laughing
Best wishes,
Andy

Thanks Ross,
I was lucky to find that well aged maple with such wild grain down the center.
I had the quilted maple and flamed walnut for the wings. I think you once said quilted maple moves you? Very Happy
Now to finish the PSG that was inspired by your work.
Best wishes,
Andy

I should come over to the Builders' Corner more often. Seems I am always on the Steel W/O Pedals section. Andy, that is a sweet one for sure. You got a lot of grain going on there! My favorite section of grain is on the neck sides....very classy build.

Thanks Bill,
Funny thing was I was dodging a knot (That lighter colored spot) and just missed the place where it separated from the rest of the board. Laughing
The other short scale steel has very unusual grain. It was a tad too short so I had to attach the head with a nice large hand cut dove tail. Came out good and strong so that one I will keep because I really like the shorter 22.5" scale.
Best wishes,
Andy

hi Andy,
beautiful guitar. i kinda remember that you had some Bigsby style
pickups that you were thinking of using. did they get used on something
else instead? was just curious as to how they sounded.

No it turned out they were a tad too wide with the base to work on these two lap steels.
I'm planning another run of 3 or 4 in the panda shape but wider to handle 8 strings.
I will use those pickups on them. I may also try one on a bass just for grins. Very Happy
