You guys who play 11 string steel guitars do yall use your own custom gages or do you purchase a set for a U12 just use all bit one string? I'm fixing to get an S-11 and I wanna know all i can about this particular setup. I know Tom Brumley played an 11 string. Any info will be greatly welcome. Slim

The easiest thing to do is just use a 10-string set and buy an extra .056 to put an 'E' on the 11th. If you want to lower that to a C# use a .059 or .060

Or you might try this...

The lowering of the low E to C# on the lever that raises Es to F gives a low C# root note for the A pedal and F lever combination. Lowering the middle E to D replaces the missing D on string 9. Universal E9/B6 players do that to replace string 9 so they can get the strings needed for the B6 mode.

Thanks Richard!

Mike - it's fun to have the full E G# B E(D) on the bottom, with only one extra string. I bought a ZB 11 string some years ago with this setup and it really connected.
And yes #7 is wound.
