| I have a chance to purchase an Emmons D-10…. serial number 1499. What year would that be? Any other information would be greatly appreciate. |

Short key head was relegated to the later Legrande models. The bolt on models had screws from the top that held the changer but not to be confused with later lacquered bodies, which had the same screws and bolt pattern, but aren’t considered true “bolt ons.”
The fat back will be straight across on the rear apron rather than the curved areas where your legs go under the steel. Bothered some taller people with longer legs because they had a bit less room. But I’ve found them to have less cabinet drop and better sustain. Your mileage may vary! 🙂
Then you have the cutail and split tail references as well as wrap around models. I’ve found tone wise the bolt on the be best but the wrap around was a close second. The fat back, as mentioned, seem to be more stable cabinet wise and sustain wise. But these are just my opinions. Others here are far more knowledgeable than I am and can give even more specifics and their personal opinions. 🙂 |

I have a cut-tail lacquer guitar rebuilt by Tommy Cass that plays and sounds superb, especially when the guy sitting behind it plays well 😎
I believe there are a couple of first-rate Emmons techs in N.C. but have no experience with any of them so can't suggest any names. A forum search might help you sort that out if someone else doesn't chime in here first. |
