Do any of you historically-minded people (sometimes known as "older guys") recognize that name? "American Hawaiian Teachers of California" were from Oakland, CA (1126 Latham Square Building, to be precise .)
At least that's what it says on the label in my "AHTC" acoustic lap steel. It's a small O-body roundneck that no one seems to be able to identify ..
It measures about 9" across the top bout and 13" across the bottom.
It's been described to me as a "teacher's" -- rather than a "student's -- guitar; it's a bit fancier than most of the student Oahus I've seen, although it is not X-braced. It is 12 frets to the body; the headstock (slotted) and tuners are similar to the cheaper Oahus and Bronsons. And since I'm terrible at identifying woods, I'll have to say it had a "blonde" top and "reddish-brown" sides and back.
I assume the "AHTC" was a guitar school/course similar to Oahu Publishing or the Hawaiian Teachers of Hollywood.
Does anyone know anything about this school, or who made their guitars? I'll e-mail photos if you think you can identify it.
Thanks --[This message was edited by Russ Young on 13 August 2002 at 08:59 PM.]
