I just changed strings on my stage one and now my third string is sounding bad, dead with a sitar like buzz. It appears to come from the finger side because when i fret with the bar on any other location the bad souds stays.
I also oiled all the moving parts. At first i thought the oil had resolved some dirt and that that might cause the bad sound but after a little cleaning it's still there. Is a little polishing or sanding advisable? |

Looks to me none of your strings are on changer fingers!
Here is an example of proper stringing:

Sometimes i'm surprised by my own stupidity..
Thanks for waking me up Jack. My only excuse is i was still a beginner when i had to quit 3 years ago because of ankle and neck problems.
I bought my Stage one 3 weeks ago and wanted to restring it and aparently i had (have) to rediscover the instrument.
It's all good now and all sounds like it should,
Thanks again,
Michell from the Netherlands |

Glad you and Jack got it straightened out, Michell. Logical mistake. I am surprised it was only string #3 that was off! |

Before you set the strings straight, take some q-tips and dab a tiny bit of metal polish on top of those changer fingers and try to rub out the little grooves that you can see starting to form there. The strings cut into the aluminum over time with all the bending and stretching. If you let it go too long, you’ll start hearing the dreaded “beeeeeerrrr” sound, especially on strings 3-4-5. |
