I've had good results using the MXR M81 preamp pedal and the Boss 59 Bassman pedal. The M81 has a midrange shift. I'm using the Bassman pedal into a Quilter 201. _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

I know from personal experience that it works well with a Furlong powered cabinet, Quilter TT202 combo amp used as a power amp, P2P Bad Dog combo amp at unity gain, and a Fender Tonematic Twin at unity gain.
I would however.discuss your question with TC. |
Rob, could you explain 'unity gain'
Thanks!
I think I figured it out here, Thanks again.

Mine arrived as I was packing up for a couple of gigs night before last. I took it out of the box, threw it into my bag and took it along untested.
Plugged it in to the return on my Quilter 202 and without even having the time to experiment with settings, used it on both gigs that night. I couldn't be happier with it and I haven't even had the time to actually dial it in yet!
Great job on this, TC. |

I just got mine. I don’t like the sound of peavey Nash 400s in general but this box from TC has a very distinctive sound and response that is captivating. I’m really enjoying it. _________________ Bob |

Hey Bob, it's a whole different thing than the Nash 400, this is based on the Session 400 pre-amp, which Peavey developed with assistance from 'real' steel players.
Brad Sarno did a really good job characterizing the Session 400 EQ section here:
https://steelguitarforum.com/Forum11/HTML/003822.html
I think you'll find that VERY interesting. _________________ Lost Pines Studio

They are in stock today, I ordered one up, stand by, should have it next week. My buddy Wayne Franco just got one and sounded great through his N400 power stage. _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

This would be the perfect pedal for getting a great steel sound out of a Fender PA 100 or 135. It should also be great for any of the other non-steel Peavey amps out there--Deuce, Mace, Special 130, etc.
I'm going to possibly be getting a Fender PA 100 here soon. Hmm...this may be the ticket instead of modifying the tone stack on this great amp! |

The Sesh 400 should work great as a stand alone preamp plugged into a delay/reverb pedal into a Class D power amp into a speaker. This would be the ultimate light weight rig. A basic Quilter 200, Straight Ahead or similar power amp. You shouldn't need to Sesh into another preamp? _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

My specific goal for the sess 400 is to put it on my pedalboard and go ampless for the casino gigs that have their own sound engineer and we all use IEM's anyway. I tried the UA Dream65 for that purpose and didn't care for it.
Going ampless is new to me and I'm sure it will take some getting used to... but I'm definitely hopeful I can make it work. |

If one plugs into the effects return on Quilter 202 tone block, the manual states that there will be a 6db cut on the master. Danny, maybe that's why you could not get the output. The manual states that when one simultaneously plugs a dummy 1/4" into the effects send(such as one side of a patch cord), it eliminates the cut. It works with any 1/4" plug not connected to anything. I have not tried with the Sesh 400, but it works for other preamps.

I just got my Sesh400 and it's very very good -- only tried it through my recording setup so far but it sounds pretty amazing.
They informed me that mine is the first International sale so thats cool .... still only took about 6 days to get here in NZ :_} .... just waiting on my Straight Ahead 240V to arrive before I try it out on a live gig. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

If you are looking a unit that has some edge and good string separation this might be what you are looking for. I plugged it into my 202 return (with a dummy plug into the send jack) _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

Larry, I see you're selling yours already. You had a positive review at first. After working with it a little longer, what did you find that it lacked in your chain? Did you try it as a stand-alone into a power amp? _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Revelation preamp, Carbon Copy Delay and Hall Of Fame Reverb, Crown XLS 1002, 2- 15" Eminence Wheelhouse speakers, ShoBud Pedal, Effects Pedals. 1949 Epiphone D-8. |

Dennis yes I did with my 202. It is really clean, it does a great job. I deleted the sale to give it a little more time. _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

Steve I will be bringing mine to Dublin as well :-} ... just played my first live gig with it and loved it, Benado PF Steel dream, Peterson tuner, Sesh 400, Jay Ganz Straight Ahead power amp - Telonics 15" cabinet.
Did some tracking with it earlier in the week too and it sounded divine....
Jean-Marie -- try sending TC an email off his website and they will get it sorted for you -- thats how I got mine on the way ..6 days to NZ !
