Here's a nice, old-fashioned waltz from the roaring twenties. It was originally written for the film score of "What Price Glory" at the tail-end of the silent movie era. I first heard it used as background music during "medication time" In the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975). E9 steel, and I also did some banjo accompaniment.

Nice Mark. The great Herby Wallace had an uptempo version of this, more in a swing fashion. Great tune and you did a fine job. |

Hi Mike I don't recall Mantovani playing that Intro! And its a good job you got the cuckoos nest bit in there. I started to wonder where you were recording it. Ha Ha. Loved it! What do they call that type of intro. I know a lot of popular songs of that era had them? Dave |

Hi David,
Yes, Mantovani missed that intro. Shame too, because that's a very nice part of the melody.
The intro is commonly called the "Verse", and is something that used to be quite common in the old songs and tunes. Unfortunately, lots of the old chestnuts lost popular use of the verse over time. Possibly motivated by keeping recorded music short (?). Not sure, but every now and then I'll hear an old familiar song with an unfamiliar "new" intro part. More often than not, it's just the old forgotten Verse |
