There are/were two of those guitars listed on eBay. Are these like yours? And do your truly enjoy the sound?

Ray,

You may have given me a hint to what I bought on ebay recently. It was advertised as a Rick, but I did not think it was. I have not received it yet but it is all bakelite, with raised frets, nut and pickup cover being a single cast. I recently saw some Dickerson bakelites but they painted the fret markers. The ad said there were no serial numbers or logos. Any idea what I bought? Real curious to hear this bakelite after I heard your collection of Ricks' http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=895899496&rd=1

Gary........I wrote the seller and suggested he explain more about what he thought he had.
I looked at it for several days and have no idea WHAT it is! I believe it not to be a Rickenbacher but then again, I'm no expert.

The guitar you've won appears to be a Rickenbacker Ace or Academy lap steel. It's hard to tell from the photographs. These were made between 1948 and 1953, according to Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars.

When I initially saw that guitar on eBay, I thought it could be related to my Bakelite Kiesel. Although the shape and knob positions are very similar, the Kiesel has (or should I say had?) painted-on fret markers and a metal pickup cover.

I also thought it might be a Rick Ace or Academy, but I had read they all had horseshoe pickups. Then I came across this photo of a "White Ace," which appears to have a molded pickup cover: http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/mccorp/modelwhiteacelapsteel.html

Does it look like the same guitar?

Russ,

It looks close to what I can make out in the ebay add, but I have not received it yet. Actually in my reply above I had meant that I thought it might be a Keisel (I wrote Dickerson). It looks like it might be a newer version Rick. It will be interesting to hear the sound.
