I received this response from Dan.

My 1995 Webb distorts after about ten minutes. I have replaced the caps, all pots have been cleaned, solder joints checked. board check for cracks.
Any ideas?

check the EQ switch on the far right of the front panel - does it crackle when you move it back and forth?
I was having trouble with the Webb I recently acquired and cleaning that switch by spraying in some MCL fixed it. _________________ Milkmansound.com |

Have you tried it through another, known good speaker? It sounds like whatever is happening shows up after getting good and warm and as you have already addressed the power supply I would suspect a cooked voice coil.
Another source of nastiness in the Webb can be the RCA plug at the reverb pan output (right side looking from the back of the amp. The send to the tank is a single wire and relies on the shielded return cable to ground the circuit. If the return jack is making only partial connection things can get very...unusual. |

Does the distortion change with reverb off or EQ in/out?
The next step would be to check the line out to see if the source of the noise is the preamp or the power amp. |

What type of distortion? Is the distorted sound smooth like a fuzztone or overdrive, or is it irregular and spikey, like a bad cord or bad connection?
What else is in the signal path? Have you tried plugging the guitar directly into the amp? |
