I searched all over the internet for my first lapsteel.
Should I get a cheap beginner or what?
I emailed Chris about his lapsteels with a hundred questions and he promptly and courteously replied to them all.
I chose the one I wanted and today he let me know it's ready and will ship tomorrow.
I know zero about lapsteel,but am ready to unravel the mystery.
I bought a Clinesmith tonebar and left handed thumb pick and some finger picks.
Two thumbs up for Fouke Industrial.

Very nice looking lapsteel. I like the color of it. What exactly is the color? On my computer it looks like champagne? Am I close? BTW..........did you get a LH tone bar?  .........just kiddin you man........Very nice first steel....good luck learning to play.

It's actually silver.
I think the tonebar is a righty, but I can just flip it around.
I had the tone and volume controls wired as regular righty pots.
The only real difference would be the nut and bridge are set up for a lefty.
Scale is 24.75
He strung it up in open E as I requested..
I'll start there and see where I end up. |

Awesome! I am also a lefty guitar player... but only on standard guitar.
I learned steel right-handed because I decided I had to try to treat it like a completely different instrument since all the vintage steels are righty.
Though that's obviously not a problem if you order custom made new ones! |

UPS brought my lap steel today.
It comes with a really nice gig bag.
Plugged it into my Swart tube amp with some reverb,
delay and a bit of overdrive.
Sounds sweet.
It's a beautiful guitar.
Chris Fouke is a total pro.
Dealing with him was a total pleasure.
I got to try my Clinesmith bar finally and really like it.
Okay,time to dig in. |
