Dear G2 owners,
please provide your feedback what kind of pickups you've chosen when you've ordered you G2.
As far as I know, there are 3 different kind of pickups available.

Did you had the chance to play and compare them before ordering?

I'm located far off the PSG manufacturers so no way to play and test the different PU beforehand.

Thx for inputs of your feedback!

I really like the Mullen single coil. We just finished a month long Friday/Saturday gig, and the place had a nasty hum. I borrowed a 705 to use while we were there, and it was totally quiet. When we left there, the single coil went back in. That’s just the sound I like!

I didn't have the chance to play a Mullen before I ordered my SD12 G2 so I went with the stock single coil. After a year or so it occurred to me I'm a humbucker guy with all my electric guitars so why not my G2 as well? I swapped in a BL712 adding a coil split switch because I like the option of going humbucker or single coil at the flick of a switch rather than swapping out pickups.

Sounds like you're ordering direct from Mike and the gang at the factory? My recommendation would be to go with the BL710 (I'm guessing you're getting a 10 string G2) but be sure to ask Mike to wire in a coil split switch Winking

I have an SD-10 with a modern, black-surrounds Lawrence 705 in it. Sound excellent to me with minimal to no noise. Of course, this choice is largely a matter of personal taste. I like single-coils a lot if they're not over-wound, but I've gotten to the point where I can't tolerate the noise.

I ordered mine with a 705. Great pickup. When I use a single coil in it, I use a Steeltronics.

Hi Detlef, I ordered my G2 in 2016 with 705 pickups and wouldn't think of changing them. A student of mine has single coil pickups in his Mullen and although they sound great, I can't stand hum in a recording or live situation. In fact, when I purchased my Discovery(demo model at the Dallas show), it came with the single coil. I soon swapped it out for the 705. Not only is it quiet now but I think the tone is better. With the single coil, the highs sounded grainy to my ears and the mids & lows were chunky. With the 705, everything is more balanced.

Here is a session I did from home, G2 & Fender Twin:
