Anybody know of a place where you can buy pre cut birdseye maple? I just need four pieces for a console I'm putting together. If anyone here can do it, that would be even better. Thanks!
Abe

Abe I live in Phx, have a well equipped shop and can help you out with cutting if needed

The birdseye itself is your challenge more so than the milling, I have used Northwest Timber many times for figured maples, but they aren't currently listing any birdseye
https://nwtimber.com/
I have also used Woodworker's Source before, and again they aren't currently showing any stock
https://www.woodworkerssource.com/
Ebay has sellers listing birdseye in various formats, maybe have a look there?

Let me know if I can help

Abe,

I'm a contractor/finish carpenter. I have a decent wood shop at my home & could cut/craft some wood for you.

I live in San Diego. You're welcome to come by my place one day if you'd like. wildwoodstairs@gmail.com

Thanks, Dave

Hi Abe,
Last place I know for Birdseye Maple is eBay. A lot of people don't trust it and for good reasons, but I've had good luck buying veneers from there a few times.
I have always gotten the exact items shown in the photos.

There are many sellers who have Birdseye Maple lumber and they show photos of the exact lumber they are selling.
Much is decent looking without dark streaks, but the big question is how long it's been aged? You can send that kind of question to most sellers and just have to depend on their being honest??? Rolling Eyes

My local hardwood lumber shop has it from time to time, but usually not any wide planks with strong birdseye.
Good luck,
Andy

I think most birds eye maple you see on pedal steels is a veneer.
Hard rock maple is used for the body.
That's how it was on the Emmons I've owned. :d

Birdseye Maple is Hard Rock Maple Erv. Rolling Eyes
West coast Big Leaf Maple never has birdseye, but does have stunning Quilted Maple and nice Tiger Striped Fiddle Back grain when we get lucky. Very Happy
