Topic: 3 pulls on C pedal? |

I'm thinking of adding a pull on the C pedal. I have a zero pedal, so the C is on pedal 4. I'd like to add one change for the back neck, which presently is set up with pedals 5/6/7/8. The only concern is having too much resistance on that C pedal. I will try it out, but just wondering about others' esxperience w this.
It is a GFI ultra. Thanks in advance.. |

| I've got 3 pulls on the C pedals of all my 12 string guitars (also P4 on almost all of them). It's not a light-touch pedal but it is not prohibitively stiff on any of them. |

My C pedal that raises 4 & 5 a whole step also raises my low B to C#. Very little difference extra resistance.

Intersting tuning Larry!
Well I put a 3rd pull on the 4th pedal.
Worked fine on the back neck and no excessive tension while using it as a C pedal.

I have an A6 tuning on the back neck. That neck is set up w Pedal 5/6/7/8 so I was experimenting with a P4 (my C pedal) that would pull the lower C# up a half step...

F#
E
C# - > D
A
F#
D
It a makes nice Dmaj7/9/13 sort of thing.
This is basically the same as raising E to F on C6 (string 6) for an Fmaj9/13 rooted on string 9.
It worked well but I've opted to leave that change off for now for simplicity sake. |

A long time ago I added raising string 8 a whole step, like Franklin does, and the action was way too stiff for any quick action on C pedal. I might have chosen not-ideal holes in the bell crank and changer, admittedly. Might try it again on my other steels I'm setting up.
Anyone have a recommendation on proper holes to use for the string 8 raise?

| John, the C pedal rods on my Williams connect to the #1 holes/slots (closest slot to crossbar and bottom raise hole at changer) at all 3 pull bars and fingers. It’s a long-ish pull (raises both E’s) but that’s how Bill and Tim set it up for me and it works great. |

I have 4 or 5 string changes on several pedals and levers, and no helper springs on any of my guitars. And though some pedals are noticeably “stiffer”, it doesn’t bother me in the least. In fact, I like it when pedals “push back”, and I find it difficult to play a steel that’s set up for “feather-touch, smooth as buddah” action.
It’s all personal taste, based on the player and what they like. |
