Alright. Don't throw too many rocks at me.
I have a small spot available in a room, and I thought about putting a pedal steel there so I can practice.
But, it would put the steel about 2 feet in front of a window. It's north facing, so sun exposure isn't an issue. But - this window is open at nights in the summer. The steel in question is a mica covered Carter S-10.
Is there a distance from a window that it's safe to have your steel? If I cover it with a nice thick cover will it be ok? Does anyone have this issue?

I think you'll be fine. Pedal steels are remarkably tough, at least compared to, say, an acoustic guitar.
If you were on the Gulf Coast, then it might be a different situation. After a couple years you might get some corrosion on metal parts. But Colorado has low humidity and salt-free air.
Your main issue is that in the morning, when it's cooler, the steel is going to be a little flat. And then later in the day as the room warms up and the body expands, it's going to go sharp. |
