One of the really great arrangers of tunes of his era, and Poinciana is a prime example. But travel through his lengthy career and you find all kinds of fascinating stuff. The Awakening is one of my favorite albums, but so is his recording Crystal from almost 30 years later. Just a sublime pianist with impeccable chops. And a real gentleman. Was lucky enough to hear him in intimate settings in nyc back in the 80s and 90s. I always knew the day was coming, just like with Horace Silver, but they made the most out of life and enriched ours.
