My friends at local music shop have acquired an early 50's Stringmaster. Short scale and push-button switches. One particular question. There is a chrome bracket at the headstock end of the back neck, with two tapped holes. Does anybody know the purpose for that attachment?

Could be a homemade mounting for a Mic Boom of some sort....heck that's a great idea....I sing and play.

MUCH more finesse than the 'customizations' you tend to see on Fender steels. Not only is it well crafted, it appears that it does not require any new holes in the tuner tray.
Mic rig is the only thing I can come up with. |

One sometimes sees older non-pedal steels with crude mechanisms to pull strings. Perhaps the bracket, although far from crude, was part of a such a mechanism.
Nice Stringmaster. |
