Traditional Bossa Nova seems to work pretty well on the dobro. Anybody remember Mike Auldridge playing "Wave"? One Note Samba works too and probably a lot of others.

Really enjoyed that Mike! Nice groove. I like anything that swings. I started on 8 string non pedal steel a little a year ago. I have a background in jazz guitar so I quickly found out I wouldn't be happyunless I was working on jazz arrangements. So, your stuff intrigues me. What type of tuning do you use on standards/Great American Songbook type stuff your playing? I am using a B11th type.

Hey Rich.....

Every time I become frustrated with what I "can't get" or get stuck......I think about what you and Mike Neer are getting out of your tunings with the complex music that you're both playing.....and it gives me hope.....

I look forward to meeting you in Dallas.....

Nice Rich. I’m a huge fan of Bosssa Nova and Jobim. Here is my one and only recording, Corcovado. I actually went there, high above Rio De Janiero when I was 7.

Thanks Howard, I really appreciate that!
Mike Neer is fantastic, no doubt about that. The way we approach the instrument is quite different. Everything I know I could show you in 10 munities. With Mike, you could study with him for years.
I come from the Jerry Douglass school and I'm mostly ear and instinct, and I fly without guidance rather than trying to understand how it all works. I don't have a clue. I really don't.
I'm still planning on Dallas. I'll be playing the lap steel out there and will most likely play Country music tunes. That's my briar patch you know.
Probably sound like this:

That sounds great! Clean and melodic.
I guess you don't need me to remind you how difficult it can be to find a way to play that doesn't sound like everybody else on the instrument. I can appreciate it! As only a dobro player can. R.
