I've got a brass body, chrome plated round neck single cone resophonic guitar, brand name Sterling, which I bought new in 1997 and paid $700. I was told that the body was made in Czech republic and the neck and assembly were done in Japan. It's plenty loud and sounds decent but I'm looking to trade it for the mellower tones of a square wooden resonator model. Is any one familure with the Sterling brand? What sort of trade might I expect? What is its approximate value? Thanks in advance.

It's hard to guesstimate the value of these guitars, but the Sterlings I've seen are similar if not identical to the Johnson metalbody resophonics, which are made in Shanghai, China. There was one offered for sale here (San Francisco) for $300 last week; I don't know if it sold or not at that price, but anything over that price seems reasonable.
