Many of us remember the fine work of, and wonderful human being Tom Pettingill.....Tom was like the Jeff Beck of steel guitar builders......
I was just nosing around Reverb, not looking for anything in particular nor was I looking for anything to actually buy....but when a Pettingill lap steel popped up (at a very reasonable price).....I was left with no other choice but to initiate paypal at warp 9 and make it so......
I'll include a link below to list all of the particulars and details, but this Angel has been on a journey.....in 2011 it was built for a forum member who lived in NC......some years later it found its way to Ca. and some time after that ended up in Ohio.....I don't know if it resided in any other place in between, but for a 12 year old guitar that's been around, it's in perfect condition....it could use a little polishing and the changer levers need a little tuning (which I would expect of any used guitar).....but that's it......between the 2 pups, 4 way switch, and tone control......there are many options for varied tone & sound.....originally there were 4 levers but now there are 3 which is plenty for me.....the Hatten case is first class work......when I say return.....this guitar was born on the forum, left home like a young adult, and is now back home to roost.....I think Tom is smiling......

Nice axe—would love to hear a clip some day. _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |

Ditto on missing Tom. Terrific guy who built lovely guitars. I was emailing him about getting one of his Cub models when he died. Never to be. Glad this guitar found the perfect home with you, Howard - a guy who really appreciates elegant design. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Wonderful.
Looking at the old pictures, I'm wondering if it's the lighting or if the maple has honeyed over the decade. I've got an old bass I built on which I gave the maple a little help with some amber tint but time did the rest. I love when that happens.
Tom's unveiling of a new build here was always a high point for me. |
