Looking forward to seeing many Forum members at the Dallas Show - our table as usual will be in the back of the main ballroom between Mike Sweeney and Texas Music Supply. Bring me any old powder coated bars you’d like to exchange for $15 for new. I’ll have a good representation of what we make, feel free to contact me if you are wanting a specific size and color. Thanks! Michael

Someone emailed me last week asking if we were still making powder coated bars, and yes we are- haven’t raised prices since we began this thread on the Forum, but, due to inflation we will have to raise slightly the end of July. Thanks to all who support our project, and contact me with any requests or questions. -Michael

I’ve held the pricing of our bars fairly constant since 2014; but today increased prices about $7.00 per bar— thanks to all who have supported our powder coated bar project since it began in August of 2014. Looking forward to seeing many Forum members at the Dallas Show in March! -Michael

We will be in the back of the main ballroom in our usual spot, right by Mike Sweeney—stop by and say hello if you will be there! Shoot me an email if you are looking for a particular size and color bar, we will have a good representation of our stock, but I can’t bring everything. As usual, if you have old powder coated bars you’d like to swap for new ones, $20 per bar. Current pricing appears on this page, about three posts above. -Michael

We will be out of the shop for the Dallas steel guitar show, March 7, returning late on the 12th. Love to have any Forum members that are attending stop by and say hello, we are in our usual spot next-door to Mike Sweeney in the back of the main ballroom. We will bring a good selection of colors and sizes of bars, just did a batch in various sizes that are a turquoise color. Swap any badly worn or damaged bars for a new one for $20. Looking forward to a great show this year, thanks to Albert and Debbie for all they do to put on this great show!!

I’d like to know if you still have some Tapered ToneBars Left?
and if so what are the sizes, and weights? and how does the Taper Run? If they are available-
Would we order the same way we do the BJS Bars? Like…7/8 12 String Tapered in Blue.
Need to know what the Taper is, or rather “How does the Taper run?”
Thanks!
Looking forward to Hearing from you!
Respectfully,
Jeff Mercer

Hey Jeff, thanks for asking about our tapered bars. I was aware that a number of players used tapered bars in the 50s and 60s, hadn’t thought about making tapered bars until David Wright visited with me at the Dallas show in 2016. He wanted me to copy his tapered bar, which is 7/8” tapering to 3/4” at the tip. He plays a universal 12, and prefers what most people would consider a rather short bar for that instrument-and being a fan of all things Harley Davidson I’ve made his signature bars In Harley Davidson Orange, and a couple in black. Other players (lap steel) requested a 3” tapered bar, so we took 1/4” from the butt end of the David Wright bar and I have a few of those. I’ll post a picture here in a bit, might be easier to communicate by email- mine is vmhillman66@gmail.com - thanks! Michael

I neglected to mention the length of the David Wright bars is 3 1/4 inches. Here is a photo of three bars in each of the two tapered bar sized that we make:

The three bars on the left are the David Wright signature bars, in Harley Davidson Orange, red and black. Weight on the David Wright bars, 6.8 ounces, 3" tapered, 6.2 ounces. I've had more than one player tell me they experience less cramping in their left hand when they use a tapered bar.

The three on the right are 3" tapered bars, in white, red and buttercream. The tapered bars require a bit more machine shop time because of the taper (compared to bullet bars) the present price on David Wright bars is $63.95, and the 3" tapered bars, $56.95. Price includes priority shipping to US Zips. My email address appears in the post above should you have further questions or need information on ordering. Thanks! Michael

Hello and thanks to everyone who supports our powder coated bar project- August marks 10 years since we began to offer these bars on the Forum. I guess we’ve learned there is no limit to the sizes, styles and colors of tone bars players prefer. We just picked up a batch of teal, and have a batch of butterscotch to be completed next. Email me with any questions or suggestions- or if you’d like to return a bar and exchange for a new one. Always enjoy talking tone bars!

Hello Bob, good to hear from you. With the price of steel these days we are always happy to get old powder coated bars so that we could refurbish them. I’ll send you my mailing address in a PM. Send me any old bars you have, along with $20 for each new bar you’d like, I just need to know the sizes and color preference. Thanks- Michael
