Hands down for me is Lost In The Feeling. Okay not totally a steel song but most of the song has John playing huge crying swells and a feeling that most of us only wish we can copy.(well at least me) |

Hi Earl,
Do you have a link to this? I’m not familiar with it. Thanks! |

As far as instrumentals go, "Look At Us" that John Hughey played is a favorite , but I found out recently one of my favorite songs with steel is Lorrie Morgan's version of the eighties song "It's A Heartache", which Sonny Garrish played steel on. I talked with Lorrie one time about how Sonny had played on "Half Enough", and several other songs, and she said she'd never heard of Sonny at one time, but when he played on the "Watch Me" record that Lorrie did, Lorrie really liked his playing! Sonny plays a great steel solo on "It's A Heartache" |

For me, there are too many to mention, however, the one that touches my heart the most is Look At Us played by John. My wife and I have adopted that song as our tune. |

I Fall to Pieces-- In the early 1960`s, Jimmy DAY plays for 2 minutes and 47 seconds, from intro to the finish, on that Ray Price song. He is featured all the way through and I can`t hear a fiddle on the song. Superb job!

I'll narrow it down to three from my favorite steel players
Lloyd Green on The Byrds' "You Ain't Goin Nowhere" from Sweethearts of the Rodeo (1968)
Eric Heywood on Son Volt's "Creosote" from Straightaways (1997)
Greg Liesz on Whiskeytown's "Dancing with the Women at the Bar" from Strangers Almanac (1997)
Honorable mention to Eric Heywood on the live cut of Ray LaMontagne's "Empty" and Buddy Cage on New Riders of the Purple Sage's "Death and Destruction" from Gypsy Cowboy (1972) _________________ Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
