I received the parts today from BMI (thanks Don Fritsche!!) for a fourth pedal and a LKV to my S-10 (currently 3x4). I understand from talking to Don and from here on the Forum that the back apron needs to be removed to add the cross bars for pedals or levers. Having removed all the pull rods and the "upside down" knees, I have removed every hex bolt I can see that would hold that back apron in, including removing the keyhead endcap, but the apron is not budging an iota. It's not that it is caught or tough to move: it is on there as if it's welded in place (which I am sure it is not). I will put a call in tonight to Don, but I thought maybe someone on the Forum who had done this on a BMI would have some wisdom to impart.
It might just be that after @fifty years, it's going to take a few hard whacks to dislodge it from the top, but obviously I want to know that's called for before I start bangin' on the thing.
Anyone have any ideas based on BMI experience?
Thanks. |

Maybe reach out to Johnie King. He did a complete rebuild on an older BMI:

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

Thanks Lee. I saw that, but I didn't see the back apron removed in any of his pics. Although he had all the crossbars removed, so he either had that apron off or knows something I don't! |

Never mind. Quick chat with Don set me straight! Just a question of my bone-headed misinterpretation of "apron": but I sure did get a good inside look at the guitar, haha! |

Dan, does Tommy Cass in Baldwinsville MA work on these? If so he's your man and pretty close. |

Oh yeah: I keep Tommy on speed dial, haha. No once I understood which screws Don meant, everything went very smoothly. Tom is a treasure though. |
