Hi,
I have a superpro era LDG from 1981 which is set up the a fairly standard 3x4. I also have a new old stock sho-bud vertical knee kit that have been sitting on for the past couple years because I can't bring my self to drill holes is the LDG which currently has no extras. Any words of advise one way or the other... |

Measure twice, and use a transfer punch of the correct size (size of pre-drilled holes in mounting brackets), to accurately mark where to drill the holes.
Pre-drill holes with a bit that has a collar stop, or at a minimum a piece of tape, to measure the depth of the holes. the Sho~Bud cabinets are 3/4" so drill about a 1/2" deep at the most.
Good luck! |

Lessons I've learned from installing or moving levers in steel guitars, in general, involve unintended consequences.
Be sure that everything has room to function properly after the installation -- both the new levers and the old. Be sure that nothing will interfere with the movement of anything else, that a new bracket doesn't sit in space that is needed for the movement of an old lever.
This includes being sure that all levers still have the space they need to fold up for casing. That's one that bit me, once.
There are worse things than orphaned holes. But it drives me crazy to just leave them. I did work on someone's Pro 1 once that was a pin cushion underneath and although he didn't ask me to, I filled all the holes with wood putty (no charge). FWIW, you can't beat this $3 set of pallete knives from Michael's for getting under rods, etc.
