So I wrote this 45-50 years ago on piano... never actually wrote it down, but
my Mother always loved this very simple song and coined it her
"Little German Song" as it reminded her of her childhood in Germany.

So this evening I gave it to her as a Christmas gift and made her cry,
but differently than when I was younger Winking ... She no longer has a piano
for me to play it on, so I made this iReal track for it, and added a
little swingy final verse... BTW, ALL on E9th for once...
Sometimes the simplest things mean the most to our Parents.

How pretty!
Did your mother tell you what it was that it reminded her of?
It reminde me of this Classical piece:

Joachim, That song sounds familiar maybe a hymn, from the Lutheran hymnal?

Thank you Joachim...
I recognize that song as something Mom would sing sometimes at bedtime. I never made that connection, but we all draw inspiration from somewhere don't we. She never made this connection either, so I can't say for sure. When I used to play this on Piano I would arpeggiate the left hand all the way through what the right hand was playing. What ever it was, she was a blubbering mess as soon as she saw Mom's Little German Song. She's 89 and I'm blessed to still have her and in good health too.

There's another possibility Craig... She was raised Lutheran so maybe it reminded her of one of the Hymns

Instead of that my mother sang out of tune, but she liked my music. My father used to sing it to me.
Graig, I hadn't heard the term Lutherian hymns before. Thanks for learning me about it!

Joachim,

That melody I know somehow, thought it might be sung in church. I was raised Lutheran and my relatives are all from that region in Europe.

Craig, it sounds like an old lullaby...don't remember the words but it went something along these lines:
Lullaby and good night....it's a Brahms Lullaby.

Thank you all for your academic surmising's, but I assure you Mom's Little German Song is none of what's been presented here. I may have had fragments or all thats been mentioned similar to all James Bond Theme songs having a similar sound across the board. Or how George Straits Right or Wrong sounds so much like Eddy Arnolds Anytime... For the longest time when I first heard I Won't Mention It Again, I thought it was being played wrong, cause I thought it was supposed to be For The Good Times Winking Turns out I was wrong. Confused Crying or Very sad Winking
