Simplest is with the A pedal, strings 5, 6 & 9 at the 8th fret. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

What Ian said ^
And you can do a cool diminished run playing that chord up every three frets to be able to resolve all over the place. |

I believe there is a 9th in a 13th also. That would be the seventh string or 1st. _________________ Emmons SKH Le Grande, '73 Fender P/J bass, Tick tack bass, Regal high strung, USA Nashville 112. |

The 9th is not essential but it can sound good depending on the context. It would be the 7th string rather than the 1st. On the universal that I play 7 can be lowered to give a 13b9 which is very cool! Sadly that change is not available on E9 (although where PSGs are concerned you should never say never ) _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

How about 6th fret strings 8 , 6 ,5 lowered half step and 1 ?
Another incomplete but very handy voicing would be fret 5 B pedal down strings 6,5 and 4. You could use strings 10, 8 and 3 to mix up the voicing.
A cool spot that isn't handy would be fret 5
8th string raised a half step , 6th string B pedal, string 5 and then string 3 (B pedal) open. _________________ Bob |

A 13th shell chord is 9 6 5 with A pedal.
Spelt out it is 7th 3rd and 13th. That's all you need. |
