One seemingly could not turn on an AM radio in the early sixties and not hear this song within five minutes. Nice job, Doug.

You're right, Jack! It was on the radio constantly in the early 60s. I didn't like the song back when I was a 12 year-old kid... it was too orchestral for my ears back then. But now that I've reached my senior years, I'm surprised how much the tune has improved!

Thanks all, it's a I VIm7 IIm7 V for the head. Similar to Sleep Walk and hundreds of other 1950s songs. It's also 12/8 time, like Sleep Walk. The chords change every beat though, if you count it as a slow 4/4.
The melody is very easy to play. This would make a good A6 beginner tune. C6 players can quickly retune to A6, slow down the video on YouTube and follow along. I only play the top 5 strings so the arrangement can be played on 6-string lap steel.
Tab:

C6      A6

C ----> C#
A
G ----> F#
E
C -----> C#

Thanks Steve! The tune is from the movie of the same name. Unfortunately the movie isn’t very good Laughing but the song was one of the biggest instrumental hits of the 60s.

Such a memorable melody, big hit I would actually hear on our local AM station when I was a kid. I wish instrumentals were still popular. Really great playing and I love the tone from that Ric, Doug! I do agree with you.The movie sucked Very Happy

Thanks again Doug, My dad is not a huge music fan, but when I was a young lad he had a lot of Percy Faith records, brings me back to that time!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Great rendition there Doug. I never really liked the Percy Faith original, it was too "square" for this 9 year old kid back in '59!

Be good if you could some more Shadows tunes: "A place in the sun" is a good one for the steel.

One of my favorite Shadows tunes is "Wonderful Land". I've thought about recording that one, but it would be very hard to recreate the vibe and the beautiful arrangement of the original recording.

What exactly is your A6 tuning on your Rick?

Thanks!
