Silly question, on the George L E66/10-1 pickups, has red and black wires plus shield wires on outside... should I solder shield wires to black wire or just snip away excess shielding that sticks out.?

Black and shield both go to ground. _________________ Long-time guitar player, now wrestling with lap steel. |

Correct,
Red is HOT

Usually the sheild just connects to the metal in the pickup, and is grounded, so ground loops do not form. The red and black wires are usually separated from ground in case you want/need to wire it differently (so both wires are shielded). However, if no special wiring is done, then what everyone else said applies. I was just going into the "why" of it.

Thank you all for your inputs... but I've always had the sheild disconnected from the ground wire. But was just thinking on if I should connect it...
Blessings to all.
