This is a Weissenborn “teardrop shape” copy built personally by Bill Asher in California, not an Asian-produced guitar. Bill has had his Weissenborns built overseas for quite some time and, to my knowledge, rarely if ever builds them himself anymore. People familiar with Bill’s work, know that he has built some of the most accurately-designed and fine sounding Weissenborns anywhere, for professional players as well as weekend players. This one is Sapele wood, built true to the Weissenbon style of the 30’s, very lightweight and top notch in tone and construction, with a satin (oil, I think) finish. It is Teardrop #004, built in December of 2004. I am the original owner. The guitar has a few very tiny pick marks, otherwise it is in near mint condition. This one has a Sunrise pickup installed and the Sunrise preamp/buffer box is included. The Sunrise (pickup plus buffer box) as used by David Lindley and others, is one of the best sounding pickups for these guitars, difficult to obtain and, standing alone, is nearly a $1000.00 value. Check out the Sunrise Pickup website for prices and availability. They are nearly always sold out. This guitar also comes with a beautiful-fitting and very solid-built Cedar Creek case with purple crushed velvet lining. The asking price is $2500.00 plus $100.00 for shipping in the Continental US.
