As part of my Stereo Steel rig using Gerry Walker's great Pre-Sets, I have a T.C.Electronic M-One XL
The M-One has recently developed a recurring problem:
the Unit 'shuts down' (meaning no sound, no LCD display) but the other lights remain on.
Unable to recall any Pre-Sets.
After turning the Unit completely off and then back on, the LDC screen shows a quick message indicating "Kernels cleared" and then the M-One reverts back to the Factory Pre Sets.
Thank goodness All of Gerry's pre-sets are still there, but this recurring problem is really irritating.
Does anyone have any similar experience / advice for this recurring issue?
Thanks -

I had that experience one time during a Josh Turner show (actually was saved by being able to throw it in parallel from the Stereo Steel - dry as a bone... long night!), and I solved it by throwing it away and buying a Lexicon MX200 the next day!
I loved how it sounded, but life is too short to trust gear that can't be trusted.
Best of luck with it! Great sounding device,

Gerry Walker responded to me and said OK to post the following:
"The first thing I'd try is to clear the kernel normally yourself; here's how:
Turn the TC power off (leave the Stereo Steel power on, assuming the TC is plugged into the SS; the TC needs to still have power coming in);
Hold the "Enter" button and turn the TC Power on (the whole screen will light up);
Turn the large dial ONE click to the right where it will read "reset system param" (2 clicks and it would read "erase all programs" or similar; if you accidently turned the dial 2 clicks, just turn the power off and start over);
When it reads "reset system param", press the "Enter" button and wait till the screen says it's done;
Turn the power button off, wait a few seconds, turn it back on and the screen will quickly read "kernel cleared";
Then press the up button "^" (next to the large dial) so the screen will show "user" programs;
Turn the dial to your most liked/used program (I like #10), then press "Enter".
If you turn the TC power off and then on again, it should go right back to #10.
This is something we just have to do once in awhile.
The TC's little brain/computer gets locked up and this does the fix.
It's possible the TC is so locked up it's trying to clear the kernel on its own but this is a first for me.
So, Give this a try.
Worst case scenario is you can always send it to me but might as well take this chance first."
Gerry Walker's above process has completely resolved my issue. 'Thought other M-One XL users might find the above info beneficial and worthy of Posting.

Ron that's great and seriously appreciated. And thanks to Gary for sharing that info. Every tidbit helps the next guy. Glad it solved the problem. |
