Greetings,
I have recently picked up a Marrs PSG D10 8x5 - serial #0001. The guitar is playable but needs some TLC. There is no visible model number. I am seeking general info regarding this instrument and specific info regarding replacement of a few nylon hex nuts ( 3/16 ). I located a few sources to buy the hex nuts but I can't decide what size to purchase. I have read all related Forum posts and am thankful for the available info. Duane Marrs seems to have been a highly respected builder and I feel fortunate to have acquired this guitar. I am a long time musician and guitar player but new to PSG. Looking forward to restoring it and learning to play.
Thanks,
George |

Hey George! Might be able to help out on info regarding your Marrs guitar. First off, the question regarding the tuners, I presume, is the proper length, since the hex wrench size is the same on most guitars. I don't remember if it takes the long or short ones, the long ones can be shortened if necessary. FYI, I was the owner of the first production Marrs steel in 1980, it was officially ser# 0002(a good friend of mine still has it). There was no official ser# 0001 unless it was Duane's prototype (a laquered green finish), or the next guitar built by Robbie Robinson who worked for Duane at the time. Don't remember the color exactly, but it was a lacquer finish, loaded with pedals/knee levers. This info should enable you to determine the provenance of your guitar. Also, the original necks were aluminum, two-piece so that a wood neck insert could be used if desired. Lots of changes/improvements to the underside of the guitar were made early on due to Duane's innovative stream of ideas! If you would like to show or tell me more about your guitar I'd be willing to provide additional info if possible. Hope this helps...enjoy your guitar, and play goooood! There is 3 measurements you need to get the right size plastic/nylon tuning nuts.
1. Over all length of tuning nut.
2. Diameter of rod hole or rod diameter.
3. Depth of hole in tuning nut.
Sometimes it is hard to get the proper size Tuning Nuts, They are made to fit a specific guitars. Some are made from hex stock, Cut to length and proper diameter and depth hole drilled.
Some are actually molded with proper dimensions to fit specific guitars.
Good Luck getting the guitar setup proper, Happy Steelin. |
