here is my latest build. long scale 12 string. scale is 30.5". tuning is the alkire tuning, but tuned down. started out to be one step down from the original alkire tuning, but the high string kept breaking, so i tuned it down one more step and magic happened. everything sounded so much better. so the tuning is A C C# D Eb E F G A C D E. i started listening to the tuning and the beatles tune "fool on the hill" appeared.
i recorded a drum loop and started working on the steel part and added a track of electric bass. there is some single note improv and some chord work also. samba groove on the drum loop. the long scale is a treat to play. so much sustain! hope you like the sound of it. https://soundcloud.com/bill-hatcher/fool-hill

Bill,

Wow, thanks so much for this. I commissioned Bill to make this steel for me as I wanted a long scale like Claude Brownell. Sounds amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Can’t go wrong with a Bill Hatcher custom.

On the short scale I use heavier strings to get more sustain but longer scale definitely need thinner pedal steel gauges.

Very nice work Bill and also lovely wood choice.
Id the bridge notched for strings or do the strings just lay on the sloped edge?
