I've got a Dekley U12 in 7 + 3 and am thinking about selling it.
Overall the PSG is in great condition. Its got a nice big case for it.
I'm thinking of selling it to fund a non-PSG instrument that I want, does anybody know ball park what something like this is worth (or worth asking for)?
No pics as of yet, but I can send some if you ask.

It depends on how fast you want to sell it as always.. If you want say $2500 you will wait a lot longer to move it than you will if you want $1700 for it.. If I had a nice Dekley s12 U I was selling, I would start at $2000 firm plus shipping and then adjust from there if need be, but I tend to underprice ... You could try say $2500 and see what happens, but I think its more like a 2K guitar...

Oh I dunno,, you can add a knee to a Dekley very easily.. Its a lot like an old MSA under there... I think 2 factors are in play.. S12 Uni steels are not all that popular, and although Dekley is as good a steel as most, and better than many, they are not going to sell like an Emmons or a Bud..bob

| I'm pretty attached to my Dekley D-12 but have always wanted to try a U-12. Circumstantially it's just not a good time for me to make a purchase. Even if I plead with the boss. Hope you'll post some good photos anyway. |

I think it is more in the $750-$950 range.
In recent years I have bought a Kline S12U for $750, and an MCI S12U for $900. Both with full pedal/lever S12U setups.
I think this is more apples to apples.
Todays S12U's have many more S12U-ee features.
But you can list for any price you want and take it from there.
Please post pics. 'Love to see vintage S12U's.

There was a red S10 Dekley that was going for $750, also, here in Portland, a few years ago.
I believe Bryan Daste ended up with that one.
I am an S12U player so I did not buy that one, but it sounded really good to me.
You asked how much it is worth, and I posted some comparable Instruments (I buy sell trade S12U's pretty regularly).
No intent to insult. S10's and D10's are known to have better resale value. |

| I have a Dekley SD10 and I'm here to tell you they are the most undervalued steels around. I have a push pull and I actually find the Dekley easier to play and acoustically it sustains twice as well. I was going to dump it when i got the pp but cant stand to let it go. |

A little free advice - the only way you'll know what your Dekley is worth is to post it, e.g., in For Sale: Steel Guitars, put a price on it, and see what kind of offers you get.
Put any price you want on it. If your starting price is too high, it won't sell. At that point, you can lower the price. If you price it too low, there will be people coming out of the woodwork beating each others' brains out trying to scoop it. Better to start a little high and move down if necessary.
Personally, I think a U12 Dekley 7-pedals, 3-levers in good shape is worth more than $750. I think more like between $1000 and 1800, depending on cosmetic condition, mechanical condition, exact model you have (there were differences), how heavy (Dekleys are known to be heavy, this is where I think model tends to come in), how good are your pictures, your location and proximity to a large enough group of pedal steel players to check it out, if you're willing to ship and how much you'd charge for that, state of the economy, probably other things I haven't thought of, and to some extent, luck. I'm leaving a little room in the price range because most universal players are gonna want to add a lever or two to make a reasonably complete universal guitar. 7 pedals works fine for E9/B6 universal.
Brett is correct that Dekleys tend to be a bit undervalued, as compared to more well known brands with more cachet. But if in good shape and well set up, they are good-playing and good-sounding guitars.
