I got to meet Johnie for the first time in person over the weekend. He and his wife, Sue, made us feel at home. I thoroughly enjoyed talking about the steel guitar with him and reminiscing about all of our steel guitar heroes. He is a great guy to deal with and we appreciated their hospitality.
I just wanted to add a bit of information about the Mullen guitar for any of you that are interested. I had this guitar custom built for me and I received it in October of 2020. It has never left my non-smoking music studio other than on the ride to Johnie's house.
This guitar has 9 pedals and 10 knee levers. The E9th neck has 4 pedals and 6 knee levers on it. The C6th neck has 5 pedals and 6 knee levers on it. The E9th neck has splits on strings 4, 5, 10. It has compensators on strings 1 & 7 and has a tunable 1/2 stop on the 2nd string. The zero pedal has 2 available pulls on it, but it currently is only raising the 10th B to C# which gave me a 6 minor 9 chord open. It has a Lawrence 705 pick up on the C neck and a Telonics X10PW on the E9th.
