Well, not really a kit, but an assembled body with neck and fretboard ready to add your choice of hardware and a finish. (hardware not included). Nice opportunity to finish a high quality 8 string yourself at your leisure.

Birch body, cream colored bindings
Mahogany neck
Rosewood fretboard 25" scale
(Guitar and neck sanded to 150 grit)

Includes nut, and bridge inserts

I can glue the fretboard on for you or you can do it yourself.

You'll need to glue on the neck, sand to 320 grit, apply a finish, and mount hardware and tuners.

$325.00 plus shipping

Please email if interested. More are available

Gregg, could you describe any tonal difference in the closed verse open body?

They both sound the same to me. The deeper body guitars tend to have a little more bass/volume but don't necessarily sound better. The soundwell is a much better bracing system by far.

Where/how does one get the hardware to finish the guitar, and how much does that cost?

The neck is 2 1/2" at the nut. As far as the string spacing you choose would be mostly how you decide to set it up.

Is the dimensioning intended for use with an offset spider bridge, or does one simply adjust fingerboard placement for use of an offset spider?

It uses a standard spider (with the 2 piece insert). I pre-set the scale length/correct resonator opening placement and also drill the 4 fretboard screws that go into the body as well as make the nut slot, so the fretboard placement is all set without having to adjust or figure out.

If you are handy and looking for a winter project this seems like a heckuva good deal to me. I gigged with a McKenna 8-string for years and it had good volume & punch... It's hard to go wrong with a McKenna.

No idea if these are still available, contact Jim Adams. He builds quality guitars and the kits are pretty nice. Comes with a 6 string neck - if these are still available perhaps he can sub an 8 string neck.

https://www.adamsresonator.com/guitar_kit.html

Beard used to offer a kit but I checked their Resophonic Outfitters site and the kit page is blank. I think they’re so busy building new guitars that the “side gigs” like guitar kits and guitar setups have been discontinued.

I saw that also that is was blank! That’s for the reply, I’ll see if I can find anything out.

James,
I’m relatively sure I read a post stating that Greg stopped building(maybe to care for his father??). If you contact Jim Adams you should be very happy.
Good luck,
MB

There was one left nine years ago. I’m pretty sure these are long gone, I’m gonna close this. You can always email Gregg, he’s still a forum member.

I have one of his birch 8-strings. It does the job for me.
