Hi Roy and everyone,
Thank you so much for purchasing the book. I hope your order arrives quickly.
I'm very humbled by everyone's reaction. My advice if you are authoring a book: find a great editor you trust. Meeting Dr. Fred Bartenstein was the key for me: he toiled over my early drafts and turned them into an actual "book." I am forever grateful to him.
GOOD NEWS: I've just received permission from the University of Illinois Press to publish a chapter exclusively here on the Steel Guitar Forum. On September 6th - the official release date - we'll post the chapter "Night Life."
Thank you again everyone for helping to preserve Buddy's legacy for future generations.

Hi Michael and Tom,
Thank you very much for your lovely comments. The Forum can be a tough room, so I'm happy to have "run the gauntlet" without too many bruises as of yet.
Andy, you shouldn't have to wait much longer. I sure hope the book arrives soon.
Thank you everyone very much for supporting the book!

Hi Steve,
I just received my copy this week....can't put it down!
I surely can understand about it being a 'Labour of Love'.
I'm ordering multiple copies to give away to adoring Emmons fans, etc. They would also make good Christmas or Birthday gifts.
Thanks for your efforts!

I have my copy and I love it. However, the time I find hardest to fill is the time spent on hemodialysis. It's 3.5 hours, three times a week.
You'd think that reading would be the obvious way to use that time but, in reality and because they have you lying in a recliner with overhead fluorescent lights in your face, reading is just not an option.
My 'phone is the best distraction and now, thanks to Amazon e-books, I have The Book downloaded to my library and accessible on my Android phone. Just $9.99, too: a small price for such engaging material.
Now my book can go on the shelf and won't get dog-eared from being toted around. |

Looking Forward To This Arriving.
Just placed my order on Amazon. |
My copy ordered with Amazon finally arrived after over three months.
Well worth the three month wait, but I was jealous when I saw others getting theirs some time back.
Special thanks to Steve Fishell for the great job on such a wonderful subject.
I know how hard it is to write a book and get it to the point of feeling compete.
Wishing the Fish great success with this effort that is a gift to us all,

Steve,
thank you so much for putting that book together. I just finished it and didn't want it to end. Your database at the end and copedent evolution is something I was ready to ask for on the Forum. I'll probably re-read it from the beginning.
While reading this, I was reminded of something that happened a few years ago:
for nearly 6 years between 2014 and 2019, I played dobro in a Cambridge, MA based bluegrass group, called True Life Bluegrass, and the singer/guitarist was named Ellen Hays. Ellen had only known me as a dobro player, so one night at rehearsal, she'd discovered that I played pedal steel. She asked me,"Do you like Buddy Emmons?", to which I replied, "Of course, Buddy's the king." Ellen then told me that her brother produced a Buddy Emmons album, and then went to her record collection and pulled out an album for me to see. It was the Rainbow Album, and I learned that her brother was Michael Melford, producer of Buddy's Flying Fish albums, as well as Vassar's Hillbilly Jazz and John Hartford albums. I was floored! It was a real treat to see him play a part in your book. He's now an entertainment lawyer in Cambridge, as you well know.
Thank you again for such a job well done! |

One minor issue Steve is the small font.
At my age with no so hot eyesight anymore, it's tough to read a lot at one time.
Don't know if you had any say in that aspect, but if future printings should happen, please give that some thought. I'm not the only old farter out here!
Other than that it's very well done indeed. Just wish I could read it faster.
Great job,

Hi Andy,
I hear you. I completely understand and will let the publisher know about your problem. Nothing bothers me more than when I can't read a CD jacket, a newspaper, a magazine, etc. due to small type.
One suggestion - and I'm not trying to upsell you - is to consider the E-Book or Kindle version of the book. The digital version allows you to enlarge the type to your comfort zone. The bonus feature is that the photos look ten times better in the digital version.
Good luck Andy and thanks to EVERYONE for supporting Buddy's book! |
