When booked to play both steel and 6 string, how do y’all navigate the two? Stand for one, sit for the other, just stay in your seat, stay in the truck, etc?

I stand to play fretlees bass in a few numbers while the bassist switches to 6-string. It's easier to communicate with the drummer standing up.
For a reading gig that's all on bass I sit. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

I sit through it all. But that’s mostly out of convenience because I also sing, and to move from sitting to standing would also require a mic move (or setting up a separate standing station). |

It depends on the situation for me. If the music is more laid back, I might stay seated for guitar if it's just one guitar. I sometimes just keep the guitar slung over my shoulder the whole night if I have to go back and forth fairly often. However, if the guitar material is more rockin, I will more than likely stand. If I have to sing lead while playing guitar, I prefer to stand.
The hardest part for me is when I have to shoulder more than one instrument. These days, that's usually for bands where I play steel and both standard and slide guitar. But I have done guitar and banjo with steel. In situations like this, I generally stand for the shouldered instruments so it's easy to make changes. It becomes a total PITA if the setlist is set up so I'm constantly going back and forth between 3 instruments. I try to prevail on people to avoid this. |

LOL- no rules or rather NO thought !
Sit - stand - whatever. If I am on guitar singing (fronting) I generally will stand but if I'm just comping on guitar , I'll probably just stay seated. I think its WAY more important to have my gear set-up so I can make the swap effortlessly, seated or standing. Everything has its PLACE and it better be in the right place !
BUT- I am always behind the Steel, either way. I do move the Steel bench ( forward under the Steel ) as needed should I stand. My mic stand is generally to the left side with a BOOM. Easy to manage. Any pedals I may have are on the floor to the right, which is where the AB box is as well.

I try to avoid the double-duty position altogether, so I don't have to think so hard. |
