Topic: Emmons Le Grande Short Keyhead |

I was curious about these guitars. First of all, does the shorter keyhead give the guitar a brighter tone?And second, does the shorter keyhead give longer string life? The Branhams sung at church a while back,and the fellow that played steel, Bobby Baird, I think his name is, had a Emmons short keyhead LeGrande that he bought from Weldon Myrick that sounded pretty good. Bobbe has one for sale on his website too.  |

OK I'll go. In general they have a better mid-range sound than the other LeGrandes. This is nice for recording.I've owned 5 of these.2 where really on fire, One was average sounding. And 2 of them had the least sustain above the 12 fret of any Emmons I've ever sat down to.All were tested with the same strings, pick-ups volume pedals,amps effects etc.
This one is on fire.I sold it once. But I got er back.No it's not for sale.

i have had 3 skh emmons my choice
of all pull steels great tone and they
are very easy on strings
right now im playing a black one
8and 4 and love it

| Mike, Nice guitar. Do you notice any sustain loss above the 12th fret?I would think with a shorter keyhead ,the sustain would be fuller. |

| Kenny, I have one that is about an 82 model. This the 4th legrande that I have had.It has 8 & 6 on it. Strings have never been A problem nor has tuning. Usually at the start of A gig I tune it and that is it unless it is an outside thing with wind blowing. I have A new Desert Rose on the way, but the Legrande is here to stay. J W Day |

no loss above 12th fret
if anything it just gets sweeter
get into hughey land and it
wails!! i just today added 6th string raise on my c6 neck on rkr wow nice!
std setup but drop 5and6 on e9 neck
on 4th pedal lots of fun |

| Loss of sustain? You bet. I compared mine with a later LeGrande and there was no comparison; the newer LeGrande had much better sustain and more growl. The short keyhead guitar was easier to work on and had nicer pedal action but as far as tone is concerned, go with a long keyhead guitar. |
