Has anyone ever come up with an effect or combination of effects to simulate a trumpet? I've tabbed out the trumpet licks for Johnny Duncan's "Stranger". Right now I'm just going up and down the neck using just strings 3 and 4. It sound kinda ok but I'd like to get closer if possible. |

You might have to resort to an effects box.
I think EHX has a stomp box that offers horn sounds for use with a guitar.

The old-school approach is to use an octave-up fuzz, along with adjustments to the input level and tone settings. Some pedal candidates include Clean Octave Blend, Octavia, Green Ringer, and Foxx Tone Machine. With practice, it can also be done with a basic fuzz such as a Fuzz Face or BossTone. _________________ Long-time guitar player, now wrestling with lap steel. |

When I was on tour with Tommy Cash, I used a phase effect for the horn parts on "Ring of Fire". Worked for the 7 years I was with Tommy. |

That's a very open and natural trumpet sound. Synthetic horns are likely to be too fuzzy. I would play it straight. It's the style that says trumpets as much as the tone. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Thanks for the ideas. I'm gonna experiment with some of these. |
