I have some buildup on the metal portion of my sho hud and I’d like to get it sparkling again but I don’t know where to start. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I found Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish recommended here in some older threads and it made the metal on my MSA shine like a mirror.

Two suggestions. 1. start with Simichrome polish (available on Amazon) which is slightly abrasive. Its what most steel builders used. 2. finish with Mother's mag and aluminum polish which is not abrasive.

Hi Jason,
If you will PM me, I will send you a small bottle of my Moonshine Aluminum Polish. (at no charge) I intend to market this shortly.
A small amount goes a long way and I would like to see how it works for you. It makes aluminum shine. Way better than Semi-Chrome.

The end plate and Changer finger housing looks like it has been exposed to some chemical that has damaged it. Caustic Soda, Lime, Baking Soda, Concrete, Wood Smoke, Cat or Dog Urine, Can damage aluminum.

If the guitar was stored in its case for a long period. Check the case. It looks like the guitar has been exposed to some chemical.
Check the case close, If it is contaminated it could cause further damage.
Good Luck in this project.

Looks like typical oxidation of the aluminum components. I have done rebuilds on Sho-Buds that were worse than that. 8" buffing wheel, brown Tripoli, and a little elbow grease, it'll look like chrome..
