Song of the Islands is nice. I guess shortly after that, Rickenbacher sued the companies who copied their pick up.

Rickenbacker didn't sue anyone. Vega, Epiphone, Kay, and other companies using horseshe-type pickups shortly realized that it was cheaper and eaiser to build under-string pickups. Not that Vega's horseshoe pickups were anything like Rickenbacker's to begin with. By 1938 Vega had actually stopped using true horseshoes; perhaps this film was released that year but filmed earlier, or else the instruments weren't brand new.
