According the the ACL archive, it was season 4, 1979, episode 405, along with Tom T. Hall. VCRs were just hitting the US market about then, maybe somebody has a BetaMax or VHS tape they made off their TV?

If you should ever chance to see a video of the show, pay attention to the voluptuous girl sitting in the front row on stage right, directly to the right of Buddy's foot and volume pedal. The dork sitting next to her is her boyfriend, your humble correspondent.

Yes, I was there.
The show was filmed at the KLRU studios, in the UT Communications Bldg. where Austin City Limits was produced in those days. The University had the best TV production facility in town in those days (1970s thru 1990s) and was used for other non-UT shows produced by TNN and other production companies. I frequently worked at KLRU with Alvin Crow, Marcia Ball, Gary P. Nunn, Johnny Bush/Willie, etc.
