Hey all, I recently picked up this Carter. Given it's unusual traits, I was thinking someone might recognize it. I love the lacquer and the color, but with the décor and the fact that the finish is scratched and blemmed throughout, I'd like to get the cabinet refinished. Any recommendations?

Thanks Jon. It really is and I don't want to screw it up working on it myself. I mean, I can disassemble and reassemble. I've done a couple Carters now, but I don't trust myself doing the cabinet work.

Hopefully, someone will chime in of who this beauty was built for. But it would be so nice seeing it minus the challenges. A shame more care wasn’t taken to prevent the damage. Love the color! Here’s one I changed from Home Depot orange to my own mix shade of blue and unique inlays that I thought went well with the color. It was a challenge but enjoyed bringing it back to life. 🙂

And an old Shobud I kept the same color but added some layers of lacquer and polished it out.

Did Mark Giles make lacquered cabinets for Carter?

I know there's scratches, etc, but maybe the "extra" stuff cold be carefully removed and retain that beautiful blue finish.

Seems like I was looking at buying this one from John Bollinger a few years back. I could be mistaken about this being the exact Carter.

Mark Giles is the "goto" for cabinet/finish work.

For sure!

I'm certain that's a MG cabinet, minus the gratuitous and ill-advised (IMHO Laughing) "artwork."
