I'm interested in the black box.
I generally use a leg mounted matchbox 6A, and am steadily adjusting it...
Would the logical signal chain then be
guitar--> 6A --> Blackbox --> VP --> out...
Or would the BB and 6A be reversed?
I'm sure the difference is ridiculously subtle, but asking anyway. |

If you have a black box, there is no need for the 6A.
The black box is designed to be the "load" for the guitar pickup.
I had a black box and I have a Goodrich Matchbro (original model) that has a "stripped down" matchbox with a tone control in the bypass mode. Both units together did not work well.
I still have the Matchbro and rarely adjust the tone. I've used the Matchbro with a D-10 Franklin, a D-10 GFI Ultra and now with the GFI S-10 Ultra with pad. |

Thanks Jack
Ya, I thought there might be some unnecessary overlap in the buffering function of the 2 units.
The matchbox is excellent for quick tone and volume adjustments. I find it really useful.
The appeal of the black box is in its tone enhancement, but reaching down and adjusting it constantly would not be ideal... |

I have both buffers. I find the black box has way more tonal enhancement when used with a solid state amp, any solid state amp. It adds a tube, which to my ear and countless others, warms the amp up and adds that tube warmth the other buffers just dont.
Since I get the black box my 6A has not came out of the box. Just no way they compare tone wise.
I set the Tone on the BLack box at around 1 or 2 oclock, and thats it!!
It is a bit more of a hastle being it needs plugged in, but thats a tiny issue for the tone you will get!! _________________ Williams 700 series D10 8 and 5,

My findings on the Black box are the same as Larry's. It seriously warms up a solid state amp with the control set from 12-1 I put my 7A Goodrich in my seat. |

If you want to try one out, pm me--I'm in Toronto. Also re your other thread, I've got a Milkman mini, 40 watts which might help you decide between the 50 and 100w. |
