RIP Ronnie. He was a giant talent with a giant personality, a true entertainer who raised the bar high, he showed us how it was done. Well done sir, well done. |

Ronnie was a giant influence on the local Toronto rock and roll/R&B scene, and a very good friend to many, many players. I'm certain a lot of my old pals there are having moments of silence. |

Ronnie and The Hawks played my Senior Prom in Springdale, Arkansas in 1961. Then they moved to Canada. Seemed to me that everyone who went to Canada came back much better players. Years later, I realized perhaps, maybe they were dodging the draft. I never went to Canada but I enlisted in the Navy because I knew I'd be drafted. Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks will always be one of my favorite bands. Even when the Hawks left Ronnie and became The Band, they were still great. Ronnie and Levon Helm came from Huntsville, AR.
Forty Days and Mary Lou should be inscribed on Ronnie's tombstone. RIP Ronnie Hawkins you left me with great memories. |
