Hi . I’m thinking of installing a hip shot double shot on my Beard R model. I got the Beard almost 2 years ago. I absolutely love it. My question is that it has a crack and I’m wondering if it will put to much pressure on the back. And also some varnish problems. Could I just top coat the back?

It also had a repair done on the other bottom corner. Might have contributed to the crack.

Maybe you should ask Paul Beard about the crack.

I suggest that you send the guitar to Paul for him to repair and install the Double Shot.

That guitar got smacked. Call Paul and he'll come up with a plan for you.

The double shot is entirely supported by the screw you use for the strap. It floats above the top and doesn't come near the back.
IMHO, Dobro tops, bottoms and sides are pretty thick and if it's ply or solid wood, wood cracks. I wouldn't worry about it.
The advantage to a Beard install is the roller nut, locking tuners and Fishman pick up install all at once. The break angle is not as much as a non-double shot guitar too. Given the expense, you might consider buying a completely new guitar with all of that figured in the price.

I agree with all your thoughts. I called at Beard today and they are getting me a quote ready . With all it`s imperfections, it still sounds awesome. I agree with Howard also. The old fellow who sold it to me must of dropped it. Thanks for all your reply's.
