The EQ controls are much in accordance with the 70's Peavey Session 400. It's passive and frequencies line up with a steel amp:
Bass: 80hz
Lo Mid: 400hz
Hi Mid: 800hz
Treble: 10khz
I was able to zero in on a good setting with the bass, hi-mid and treble, then tweak with the low-mid.
It has a controllable compressor built in with a toggle switch to bypass it.
TC Electronics simulates a tube amp and does it well.
Output is 250W at 4 ohm load. The BQ 500 puts out 500w. However, the 250 is loud.
It has a headphone out for quiet practice and an auxiliary input for practicing with sound tracks.
Balanced Output with a pre or post eq switch to patch direct into a board.
There is no effects loop.
Summary: very compatible for steel and weighs 5 lbs.

Also, the BQ250 can be purchased new for $220.00 and free shipping on ebay. Can't beat the price.
