If you have a G on the top string is there a benefit in moving the raise to Pedal 5 that lowers string 5 and raises strings 9&10? Or does it work just as well having it on pedal 8 that raises string 7 and lowers 9&10? Or is any other pedal advantageous? _________________ 2013 Williams D-10, 2019 Williams D-10, 1970 Fender Twin, Evans SE200, Fender Tonemaster Twin, Hilton pedal, Jagwire Strings. |

Traditionally, the string one raise to G# was on pedal 5 with the lower G lowering to F#, string 9 raise to F#, and string 10 raise to D.

Richard I saw that but is there a chordal or melodic advantage? _________________ 2013 Williams D-10, 2019 Williams D-10, 1970 Fender Twin, Evans SE200, Fender Tonemaster Twin, Hilton pedal, Jagwire Strings. |

Probably no more than having it with pedal 8. When I had a G on string 1, I never used that change, but I am also not a real C6 player. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . The G# on top of p5 gives you a pretty useful D9#11.
Having it on p8 gives you a major3 of an E7 chord when combined w p7.
I don't play a lot of 'textbook C6', but this archetypal change ( raising the upper 5th of a tuning ) has advantages. Wherever you put it, it is very handy if you're playing in 3rds and resolving out of the 5 chord position- for example w/ C6, key of C, moving from fret 7 to 8 and resolving to the 1 chord on the top two strings. Not sure if these things outweigh the advantages of having a D on top.... I suppose having both, somehow, would be the ultimate! |
