3M double Stick Tape seems to be very good.
A good contact cement would work well, but its messy to use.
Some companies use small screws or nails. _________________ Inlaid Star Guitar 2006 by Mark Giles. SD-10 4+5 in E9th; http://luthiersupply.com/instrument-gallery.html

The same way you apply golf grips.
Double sided tape on the fretboard. Make it slick with naphtha (Ronsonol lighter fluid) and place where you wish. Press or use a roller to make tidy and tight.
The fluid will give you a little time to position the fretboard on your guitar just as it gives a little time to line up your golf grip to the head of the club. _________________ Chris Lucker

There is a "removable" spray adhesive which allows for repositioning.
I don't know if that's really desirable.
Thin non-foam double sided tape seems ideal, but it is unforgiving.

Thin double sided tape is forgiving if you follow my instructions. How do you think golf grips are aligned perfectly? _________________ Chris Lucker
