Has anyone used these kits from Bobbe Seymour (http://www.steelguitar.net/)

| Yes - I put a 2" lift kit on every steel I own, they work fine for me. I've never seen a standard steel I could really get my legs under - for a long time, I thought there must be no tall steel players. |

The only caveat is you would have to make sure the thread diameter and pitch are the same on the lift kit extender as the existing rods.
If SGN does not have the right thread size, go to mcmastercarr.com and search on threaded standoff - they have lots of sizes

They will deliver very quickly to the UK but be warned the shipping is expensive and there doesn't seem to be an economy parcel choice.
I ordered 2" standoffs with 10-32 threads. I think 1 1/2" would have done. I'm 6'2" to give you an idea. |

I'm 6'4 and used a 2" kit from bobbe on my Shobud...1 1/2" probably would have worked, but 2" was fine. The kits are great and inexpensive, plus Bobbe's servce is second to none.
Odd trivia - when I got my GFI I thought I'd need a kit - and I fit perfectly as-is for some reason. I guess Gene just builds them a little taller than the other makers. The only other guitars I fit in stock form are my old Fenders. Every other steel I've played is too short - I can twist my way under them, but forget about using a volume pedal. AndI can't use a Pack-a-seat with anything, even using a lift kit - those things are ALL too tall. |

Matt,
I've recently bought a 2" liftkit from Georges L's for my Franklin. I took me 1/2 hour to set up the kit and cost me $6 for each pedal rod.

Bobbe's shop webpage says Sho-Bud rods use a 10/32 "size extension" - is that referring to the internal thread diameter?
I took a rod into a local machine shop (we are all metric over here) and the guy measured the thread and said it was "5/32" -I should have asked him to clarify exactly what sort of thread he was referring to.
I would put an order with McMasters, but I am unsure of all these odd imperial thread sizes, can someone give me a definitive answer?
I've enquired via Bobbe's website some days ago, but have had no response. The website does say they require a $500 minimum order for international shipping, so perhaps my enquiry is low on their priority list in the busy new year period.
I had to send the ones I had off with a Carter Starter I sold (to a tall guy) and so my Sho-Bud ('84 Pro-I) is sitting idle and rod-less until I get some replacements. The Carter ones fitted the Sho-Bud. No-one I have found in Australia can supply them. The electronics supplies shops says theirs are all metric.
Any help appreciated. |
