I just loaded 40 battery less memory chips with Profex or Bassfex steel guitar settings
This makes it much easier to replace the old memory chip and get rid of the battery
That way all you have to do is
-remove top lid
-wiggle old battery back and forth to break it off the board, do not try to desolder it
-remove old memory chip and plug in new one
- put the top back
-all done
If you have your settings that you prefer on a card you can replace mine by loading from your card

The biggest issue with Profex and Bassfex is if there is a lot of leakage. It can damage the circuit traces and or components
A board that is leaked on needs to be serviced by someone competent in repair work
Typical issues are will not boot up at al or very low volume at startup These issues can often be repaired if leakage is not too excessive
A new memory chip will not fix these issues. When I get one like that I remove the circuit board for complete cleaning on both sides and replace components that have been leaked on by battery acid
Typically one or more hours of shop time

Ken,
Would all of this apply to a Transtube FX? I purchased a used one and want to avoid any problems that I can. _________________ RETIRED

Tubefex uses a different midi format. You would have to reinitialize the chip and load from a card or other Tubefex or Transtubefex via midi cable

For any of you with a ProFex and have not replaced this chip, you should do so NOW.
Yep the original battery in your ProFex may still be working, but I can promise you that it is leaking and slowly killing your ProFex.
I put Ken's chip in my ProFex, even though the unit had just been serviced, inc. a new battery, by Peavey. I simply did not want to take a chance on damage.
Heck the cost of the new chip inc. programs is less than the cost of even having a battery replaced.
Also, I was at Peavey a couple of weeks ago as the display in my ProFex went DEAD. Fortunately Peavey still has about 100 of the displays, but no more stand off posts. So a slight modification has to be made to install the new display.
Now mine is good a new and ready for another 40 years. hehe _________________ AUTHORIZED George L's, Goodrich, Telonics and Peavey Dealer: I have 2 steels and several amps.
